Maximize Your Learning
Before we dive into course material, let’s talk about how to make the most of your course. We’ve learned a thing or two over years of instructing. First and foremost, that students who succeed are largely the students who study correctly, ask questions, and put in the time required to exceed standards. This course is designed to help those students thrive!
Most students can do that. None of this is rocket surgery 😉
That said, if you hope to learn from osmosis, by simply watching each video and clicking through lessons like a new hire orientation HR module, you are going to be disappointed. Good learning is an active process!
Using the Course
Course material is organized into Sections (you’re looking at the first one now!) and, within Sections, Lessons. At the end of most Sections is a review quiz. We require students to achieve a 100% score on each review quiz to mark the Section as completed.
At the end of the course are two Practice Exams that simulate the Private Pilot Airplane (PAR) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) exam. These help you evaluate your preparedness to take the real thing, and passing two of them with a score of 90% or better is your graduation, after which you’ll be automatically endorsed via email to take the real exam!
Study Technique
We work hard to simplify course content so that it is as actionable as possible. After all, we’re learning this so that we can go fly an airplane! But in ground school, there is still a lot to remember. Here’s our recommended study technique.
- Listen to the lecture video and take notes. If you feel it will benefit you, watch the video more than once.
- Cross-check your notes against the lesson notes. We often expand upon concepts in the lesson notes section, particularly for subjects requiring memorization or organization (e.g. airspace, regulations)
- Make flashcards covering the bulk of the information from the lesson video, lesson notes, handouts, and flashcard questions.
- Study your flashcards before taking the section quiz.
- When you finish a section quiz, note which answers you got wrong and why. Then, revise your flashcard or notes to include the information you misunderstood or forgot during the quiz.
Ask Questions!
You paid for the full course, so use the full course! We have a built-in instructor messaging system accessible on the website and the iOS app. There are no dumb questions…but please don’t prove us wrong on that! Really though, we enjoy answering any and all of your questions. You don’t have to do this course alone.
Let’s Get Started!
Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s jump into the course. When you’re ready, hit the next button to proceed to the next Section.
